The Scenic Lower Saluda River

The Scenic Lower Saluda River is a South Carolina treasure. From Lake Murray Dam to downtown Columbia, paddlers enjoy this scenic river known widely for premier paddling. Water temperatures never rise above 60 degrees, and Rainbow Trout and Striped Bass thrive in its waters. Whitewater rapids for beginners to expert are dispersed along the river. No paddler ever forgets a trip down the beautiful Saluda!

Those who run Millrace Rapids, whether first time or one-hundredth, always have a story, as one cannot run the same Millrace twice.  Water levels are always changing on the Saluda.  No novice should ever run Saluda without an experienced guide, as Saluda has taken numerous lives through the years.  Canoeing for Kids has never had an accident from the launch of its first trip in upstate New York in 1993 until present.  The charity has now served over 12,000 children from South Carolina and as far away as New York.

It was designated a State Scenic River by the Legislature on May 31, 1991.
